Heartburn During School Time

 When we overeat, eat unhealthy foods or sleep right after eating we can experience heartburn.  While school lunches have come a long way as far as health standards they still have some unhealthy aspects and it is likely students can suffer heartburn from this heat lamp food.  Despite this there are nutritional choices and steps you can take towards preventing heartburn.

To know how to prevent heartburn you need to know how it starts so you know what not to do!  When you overeat or eat greasy unhealthy foods such as the fries under the heat lamp at school your body makes excess acids that can leak up into your esophagus causing pain.  You can also experience heartburn if you exercise right after eatting a big meal.  Exercising, especially aerobic exercise, can cause all of those excess acids to splash around your insides likely hitting your esophagus area.

The real solution to heartburn usually comes down to lifestyle choices, whether you will eat those greasy fries, high fat foods at school or not.  These can be tempting so try your best to eat healthy.  Remember not to eat a large meal right before your gym class and your esophagus will thank you!
